Applicant Process for Employment

Procedure for all non-police and non-fire applicants:

 

  1. Applications are reviewed by the Human Resource Department to ensure applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
  2. If an applicant meets the minimum qualifications then a basic computer check on the applicant’s driver license is conducted.
  3. If the applicant’s driver license check meets the minimum standards then the applicant may be called in for a preliminary interview.  
  4. Applicant may receive a conditional offer of employment.
  5. Applicant is fingerprinted.
  6. A background investigation of the applicant is conducted.
  7. Applicant may be scheduled for a polygraph exam.
  8. Applicant may be scheduled for a physical exam.
  9. A final interview with the applicant is conducted.
  10. The applicant may receive a final offer of employment.

Minimum Requirements
For all job postings (other than police and fire departments)

US Citizen 
At least 18 years of age 
High school graduate or GED 
Not convicted of any felony 
Honorable discharge from military service 
Clear driver’s license 
Not convicted of a misdemeanor A or B within the last ten years 
Less than two accidents within the last year 
Less than three moving violations within the last year. 
Not on probation.  

                             
Procedure for Fire Department Applicant:
  1. Application reviewed by the Fire Chief to ensure applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
  2. If an applicant meets the minimum qualifications then a basic computer check on the applicant’s driver license is conducted.
  3. If the applicant’s driver license check meets the minimum standards then the applicant may be called in for a preliminary interview.  
  4. Applicant may be scheduled for a physical agility test.
  5. Applicant may receive a conditional offer of employment.
  6. Applicant is fingerprinted.
  7. A background investigation of the applicant is conducted.
  8. Applicant may be scheduled for a polygraph exam 
  9. Applicant may be scheduled for a physical exam.
  10. A final interview with the applicant is conducted.
  11. The applicant may receive a final offer of employment.


Minimum Requirements for Fire Service Positions
For all fire service postings and volunteer service

US Citizen 
At least 18 years of age 
High school graduate or GED 
Not convicted of any felony 
Honorable discharge from military service 
Clear driver’s license 
Not convicted of a misdemeanor A or B within the last ten years 
Less than two accidents within the last year 
Less than three moving violations within the last year. 
Not on probation. 
Not been convicted of a DWI/DUID with the last ten years.


      

Procedure for Police Department Applicant:

 

  1. Application reviewed by the Police Chief to ensure applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
  2. If an applicant meets the minimum qualifications then a basic computer check on the applicant’s driver license is conducted as well as a criminal history check.
  3. If the applicant’s driver license check meets the minimum standards then the applicant may be called in for a preliminary interview.  
  4. Applicant may be scheduled for a written test.
  5. If the applicant passes the written test then the applicant may progress to the physical agility test. 
  6. If the applicant passes the physical agility test the applicant may proceed to the Oral board.
  7. If the applicant passes the oral board the applicant may receive a conditional offer of employment.
  8. Applicant is fingerprinted and the applicant receives the personal history portion of the application.
  9. A background investigation of the applicant is conducted.
  10. Applicant may be called in for an assessment board.
  11. Applicant may be scheduled for a polygraph exam.
  12. Applicant may be scheduled for a physical exam.
  13. Applicant may be scheduled for a psychological exam.
  14. A final interview with the applicant is conducted.
  15. The applicant may receive a final offer of employment.

Minimum Requirements for Police Department Positions 
For all law enforcement postings

US Citizen 
At least 18 years of age 
High school graduate or GED 
Not convicted of any felony 
Honorable discharge from military service 
Clear driver’s license 
Not convicted of a misdemeanor A or B within the last ten years 
Less than two accidents within the last year. 
Less than three moving violations within the last year. 
Not on probation. 
Not been convicted of a DWI/DUID with the last ten years. 
Police Officer course and licensing 
TCLEOSE license not revoked.
